Daniela Lotzen
Founder and Director of “Selbstbewusst Deutsch Sprechen”

Daniela Lotzen is the founder and director of the online language school “Selbstbewusst Deutsch Sprechen” and works at the intersection of language education, classroom practice, and educational discourse.

Born in Romania, she acquired German as an adult. This personal language biography continues to shape her perspective on learning processes, integration, and the conditions required for effective language teaching.

She is a teacher of German as a Foreign Language (DaF), holding a university certificate from Friedrich Schiller University Jena as well as qualifications from the Goethe-Institut. As a multilingual educator, she combines linguistic precision with didactic clarity and a strong sensitivity to the structural conditions that enable successful language learning.

Daniela Lotzen is a member of JenDaF e. V., a non-profit professional association dedicated to promoting German as a foreign and second language and strengthening professional exchange in the DaF/DaZ field.

With “Selbstbewusst Deutsch Sprechen,” she has developed an international online format for professional language education. In addition to working with learners, she initiates exchange formats for teachers, including the DaF/DaZ Praxisgespräche, which bring together classroom practice, professional reflection, and collegial development.

She also advises educational institutions on issues related to professional language education and delivers expert lectures and webinars on current developments in German as a foreign and second language.

Through her newsletter and podcast “Deutsch mal anders – Reflections on Language, Learning, and Education,” she creates a space for critical reflection on language education beyond curriculum logic and purely performance-oriented approaches. Her work focuses on the effectiveness of language teaching, the professional responsibility of educators, and the structural conditions required for sustainable German language learning.

Her professional profile combines teaching experience, a systemic perspective, and the conviction that language education becomes effective where conceptual clarity, professional continuity, and real learning conditions come together.
